When you study the broader context of Galatians 2 starting from verse 11, you discover why Paul made this famous declaration. The Apostle Peter was eating freely with Gentile converts, but when certain Jewish believers arrived from James, Peter withdrew himself out of fear and stopped eating with them. Paul confronted and rebuked Peter publicly, emphasizing that his hypocrisy was not aligned with Gospel truth. In Acts 10:28, Peter claimed Jewish law forbade associating with other nations. However, nowhere in the Mosaic law were Jews commanded to disassociate from strangers; rather, scriptures like Leviticus 18:1–3 warned them against joining in evil pagan practices, while Leviticus 19:34 explicitly instructed them to love and accept the stranger. Misinterpreting this law made the Jews blind to God’s heart for all peoples. Similarly, many modern Christian denominations misinterpret scriptures—such as 2 Corinthians 6:14—to disassociate from believers of other churches or write off unbelievers, forgetting that 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns against participating in sinful lifestyles, not shunning people. After correcting Peter, Paul emphasized that true Christians must allow Christ to live through them. We emulate Jesus by showing love and calling sinners to repentance, as seen in Matthew 9:9–12. Our interactions with others must always aim to draw them closer to God. As God later revealed to Peter in his vision of the unclean animals in Acts 10, what God has cleansed, we must not call common or unclean. Living a crucified life means laying down religious pride, walking in love toward all believers regardless of denomination, and letting Christ’s compassion shine through us. Today’s Confession: I boldly declare that I am crucified with Christ! My old self, religious pride, bias, and prejudice are nailed to the cross. It is no longer I who live, but Jesus Christ who lives through me. I refuse to isolate myself or look down on fellow believers from other denominations. I walk in kingdom unity, genuine love, and spiritual maturity today. The life I live in the flesh, I live by total faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me all through this Lord’s Day, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
