From today’s scripture, we discover that we are not supposed to despise the days of small beginnings. When you study the background of this text, you will discover that when the children of Israel returned from their Babylonian captivity, Zerubbabel was made their governor and given the charge to rebuild the temple. Today’s verse reveals that the build-up of that great temple in Jerusalem started very small—it all began when Zerubbabel took a plumb line to measure the 7 poles or pillars of the temple. Another very important thing we discover in this passage is that even though the building of this temple began small and insignificant, God’s eyes were upon it, and because of that, it was going to become successful, and it certainly did. Supporting scripture in Proverbs 16:3 calls on us to commit our works to the Lord so that no matter how small the beginning might be, God will guide our thoughts and give us ideas and strategies that will enable us to become successful. What we can learn so far from today’s reflection is that no matter how small the start or beginning of any project or goal might be, if God is watching it, it will definitely become successful. To apply today’s teaching to our lives, we must first and foremost start any project or goal we have at hand, no matter how small and insignificant it might seem. Secondly, we must ensure we commit that project or goal to God and ask Him to give us ideas and strategies to implement that will help us become successful.
