Daily Reflection: Understanding the Great Physician and Reaching the Lost
When you study this passage in its context, starting from verse 9, you discover that Jesus had just called a tax collector named Matthew. Knowing that tax collectors were considered the worst sinners in those days, the scribes and Pharisees began to accuse Jesus of associating with sinners. In response, Jesus gave them the declaration we see in our verse today, reminding them that He came to call sinners to repentance.
As supporting scriptures like Luke 15:7 & 10 reveal, there is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, more than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. Yet, in modern Christianity, we are often too busy trying to call already “righteous” people to repentance—focusing on proselytizing fellow believers and prioritizing transfer growth over true evangelism. In doing so, we attempt to call the whole while ignoring the spiritually sick who desperately need salvation.
Furthermore, many believers write off sinners as lost causes, refusing to associate with them by misapplying passages like 2 Corinthians 6:14 (“Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers”). In context, being unequally yoked means joining them in practicing their sin—not avoiding them entirely. A preacher once met me and condemned me simply because I had tattoos on my body, not knowing I had gotten them before I knew Christ. We must stop judging by outward appearances. When associating with unbelievers, our goal must never be to partake in their sin, but to reach out in love and bring them back to the knowledge, wisdom, and worship of their Creator.

Daily Prayer: Grace for Compassionate Evangelism and Soul Winning
Today’s Confession: I boldly declare that I possess the heart and compassion of Jesus Christ! I am not a self-righteous judge, but a vessel of mercy sent to bring the light of the Gospel to a hurting world. I refuse to write off lost souls or judge people by their past or outward appearance. I stand grounded in God’s righteousness while actively extending His healing hand to the spiritually sick. I walk in discernment, purity, and soul-winning grace all through this Wednesday, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
A Morning Prayer for Divine Compassion and Soul-Winning Power: Heavenly Father, the Great Physician and the Shepherd of lost souls, I bow before You this Wednesday morning. Thank You for saving me by Your grace and for showing me unconditional mercy when I was far from You.
Lord, give me Your eyes to see the lost and hurting world around me. Remove every trace of religious pride, self-righteousness, and judgmental attitude from my heart. Grant me the wisdom to relate with unbelievers in love without compromising Your holy standards. Use my life, my words, and my testimony as an instrument to draw sinners back to Your saving light and eternal fellowship. In the glorious and matchless name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
